Funky Monkey is first and foremost, an inclusive space that positions itself as challenging stereotypes around certain practices. The aerial arts and pole dancing in particular, are generally seen as more 'alternative'/niche forms of exercise, stereotypically not for the faint-hearted. Funky Monkey challenges these stereotypes and aims to build a community where anyone, regardless of age, ability/neurodiversity, orientation or gender can become a part of our community. Within our community, we have gender fluidity, neurodiversity, mums, grandmas and a great grandma too! Anyone can become strong and empowered in their own bodies, all it takes is a mindset and nurturing support. 

The Funky Monkey Studio has curated a style of teaching/learning that believes in mixed-ability classes. You will not find a beginner or advanced class on our class schedule. Rather it is about coming together at different levels, to encourage, learn and support one another.  The moves and practices are taught in such a way that they can be adapted to every person's ability, where there is room to move at your own pace.

Challenging yourself becomes very individual/personal in this space, which removes any sense of judgement or pressure. By approaching classes in this way, we have created much more than exercise classes, we are a community, within which we can be inspired by others to make changes, to challenge ourselves. empower ourselves and escape into a different space from what we normally occupy. A space to grow in the safest way possible, to develop at your own pace and have autonomy over your own progression. Here we focus on the mental aspect as well as the physical health, with the idea that one exists alongside the other. Whilst working on your physical self, the strength and power in your own body, so you strengthen/empower your state of mind. There are tremendous gains to be made both mentally and physically from these practices.  A collective nourishing of our mind, bodies and souls to help us achieve holistic health and vitality.
