The Funky Monkey Studio is a fitness studio with a difference. It is a place to come and take exercise classes, but more than that it is a place to get fit while having fun.

Discovering the disciplines that work for you, making exercise a choice for life and not a chore, we offer many different classes from Yoga, Pilates to Aerial Arts and Pole Dancing.  We offer personal and small group training and fun sessions for hen parties or birthday parties.

My mission is to provide a bright positive vibrant place close to the city centre. I strive to provide a place where people feel safe and confident, a place where people can start to make the changes necessary to improve their own health and happiness, to get back their mojo and acquire a joie de vivre. My aim is for the Funky Monkey Studio to be a breeding ground for dancers, body workers and anybody who loves to develop their mind and body.  A place where creative talent can grow. My dream is to be the host at this place of sanctuary.

Testimonials

  • Kirsty appealed to me due to her background in various types of therapy. Very approachable and easy to talk to, I found it easy to relax around her which is difficult for me being such a tightly coiled person. I work long hours mostly using a computer and suffer from tight shoulders as well as neck ache and headaches. I also have issues with my hips and pelvis from my second pregnancy. Kirsty took the time to ask me lots of questions to gain a bigger pictures of what has been happening both recently and in the past. She talked me through what she proposed and continued to explain everything as she was doing it, giving great detail about the muscles that she was working on, why they may be having issues and the best way to make them better. She is simply superb at what she does and has managed to find the problem with my hips and start treating it when no other therapist has diagnosed it correctly in the past. After just one treatment I found a huge difference in my mobility as well as much less pain on an ongoing basis. I highly recommend her!

  • henparty-vv-sm I am just emailing to say a huge THANK YOU for an amazing experience at our pole dancing class in September. It was for a hen party and the bride and all the hens had a brilliant afternoon! Our instructor Vania was superb, she made everyone feel at ease and gave us a great party, taught us some great moves, and she was also amazing at pole dancing herself! We only booked the class two weeks before the hen weekend but we are so glad we did!  We are all a little achy and bruised but we had a brilliant laugh - and we all want to pursue pole dancing further!! Many thanks!

  • Hen Party - Rich Thank you sooo much. We had the best time, a total success! All the girls (and Rich!) loved it.  Jess our instructor was brilliant taking us through all the moves and it was ace to put it all together to the music. Our arms are still aching! Thank you!

  • Alice is inspirational as a teacher: she manages to make everything look easy, then supports you every step of the way when you realise it isn't. Her style of teaching breaks every new move down into manageable chunks so they aren't too daunting and the small wins along the way make the end goal seem achievable. She has a wonderful way of bringing together people of all ages and beliefs and, most importantly, fosters a collegiate culture amongst her students that creates a friendly, supportive environment that encourages everyone to participate. If only all fitness instructors could be like Alice, we'd be a fitter, happier, healthier society!

  • Alice is a fantastic yoga teacher and really tunes into your needs. Yoga has helped me gain strength both physically and emotionally. I have less headaches, stomach and back problems, and I do actually sleep better after a class. I have learnt to tune into my breath, and have more energy to fill my day. Alice is a brilliant teacher and a wonderful person. Alice guides you through the yoga moves, and inspires each of us to go that bit further. Alice gets to know each persons strengths and weaknesses, and helps us to achieve our own 'yoga' goal posts. I am very happy to know Alice and will continue to enjoy her company, friendship, yoga classes and music! Thanks Alice, you are an inspiration!

  • I am always grateful for the really strong grounding I got from your teachings, and for you getting me started with mysore practice. I often find myself thinking of the things I learnt from you. Whenever I am tempted to skip a vinyasa, I remember your teaching on jumping back and through in Turkey (and the importance of working on it everytime), so I skip very few (if any!). Thank you too, as I don't think I ever really said at the time that your classes were a place of sanctuary during what was a pretty tough time for me (when I lived Bath and Bristol).

  • Thanks, Anna, for providing us with an hour of exercise, music, fun and meditation. This is meditation with a difference! You come home with a calm mind and relaxed body, then sleep like a baby. A complete holistic experience.

  • What can I say about meditation. It is an amazing experience and can help you a lot with your state of mind. When you try once you don't want to stop. It's like green tea you should try it believe me you will enjoy it!

  • Alice is a fanstastic instructor that I would recommend to any one looking to improve their fitness and learn new skills. Her detailed knowledge and expertise really helps you to achieve what you are working towards, getting fit and enjoying it at the same time!

  • If I was only allowed to do one form of exercise it would be Ashtanga. It has given the best body tone I’ve ever had together with an unprecedented body awareness and confidence. Every session you are rewarded with one or two little improvements to spur you on, as you notice slight improvements in postures you previously thought impossible. Once you start getting the knack of timing movement with breathing you can get into a trance like state, lost in another world far away from everyday hassles. Alice has been brilliant, allowing me to develop at my own pace, providing a calm assured presence that never distracts or jars, always there where you need her, ready with sage advice. My biggest regret? I wish I had started 40 years ago.

  • Mind, body, spirit: How fortunate I am to spend time nourishing those aspects of the human journey through the practice of yoga. And how fortunate I have felt to be led toward that nourishment under the guidance of Alice Milner. Alice is a natural teacher, she has a deep love for yoga which infuses her teaching style, she is a constant inspiration. Her compassion and sense of humor create a relaxed and enjoyable environment in which to learn she is passionate about self-study and her own development and she graciously passes the lessons she has learned along to those who are fortunate to be one of her students. Her patience, her kindness, her understanding of each student’s needs, her professionalism, her equanimity and her knowledge enable her to create a safe space to explore all aspects of yoga whether you are an experienced yogi or a first time student.
